The filtration process in an industrial vacuum system

During machining operations with whole or emulsifiable oil-such as turning, milling, drilling or grinding-oily mists are generated and dispersed into the environment as microdroplets or aerosols.

These particles, invisible to the naked eye, accumulate in the air and pose a serious risk to operators' health, production efficiency and compliance with environmental regulations.

What are oil mists?

Oil mists are a mix of vapors, fumes, and microdroplets of oil that are formed when coolant is sprayed at high pressure or superheated during metal processing.

From a purely production point of view, pollution on the shop floor from micro-dusts and oil mists considerably reduces the productivity of the plant and especially the efficiency of machine tools, since the stratification of pollutants affects the accuracy and tolerance of measuring instruments, with the onerous consequence of having to increase maintenance work on the most delicate components.

If they are not properly vacuumed and filtered, they settle on surfaces, fixtures and electrical circuits, increasing the risks of:

⚠️ Respiratory and skin diseases in workers ⚠️ Slips and falls in the workplace ⚠️ Machinery failures and electrical short circuits ⚠️ Plant shutdowns and loss of efficiency ⚠️ Contamination of the processed product

Regulations compel filtering of oil mists

According to Italian and European regulations (e.g., Legislative Decree 81/2008 and ATEX Directive), it is mandatory to take measures for the removal of airborne pollutants and health protection in the workplace. Failure to install industrial extraction and air filtration systems can result in fines, production stoppages and image damage.

EPA / HEPA Filters

The ultimate expression of the mechanical-static filtration principle in terms of efficiency is the HEPA filter. In order to achieve excellent filtration results and air healthiness, it is necessary to resort to the use of High and Very High Efficiency filters (EPA-HEPA) regulated by the European Standards EN 1822, as dictated by Technical Annex 32 - D.D.U.O. n.12772 dated 23/12/11 of the Lombardy Region.

EPA Class E10 - E11 - E12 filters with high filtration efficiency are suitable for clean rooms, pharmaceutical and mechanical industries, operating rooms and intensive care.

Ultra-high-efficiency HEPA filters effective at 99.995% for particles > 0.01 micron, are suitable for tobacco fumes, oil combustion fumes, fine metallurgical fumes, and carried viruses.

From the ecological point of view, the positive impact on the environment of an internally recycled water purifier is substantial. AR Filtrations ' business philosophy is not to focus on problems, but to focus on solving them completely.
